    Struck me this may have value for some.

    Don't forget the alcohol preps. Your parts to be soldered need to be clean too, and that means even free of your greasy fingerprints.

    Only with intricate and compact stuff like small multi-pin connectors, IC's, and SMD's.

    A final note IMO, real solder is at least 50% lead. Check the horror stories surrounding crystal(hair) growth from lead free solder.

    Probably THE main failure cause these days. I have saved many items with a hot air tool.

    after practicing with a few dead frams. i'm getting pretty good at putting the ribbons back together. the last couple look almost seamless.
